The incident occurred at around 11.20 when the inmates had gone out in the morning at 9 am. She, however, cried foul over the failure of the panchayat to launch a vigorous tenant verification drive in the village. "Hundreds, if not thousands of migrants are staying in the village, and it is not clear whether the panchayat and the police have ever carried out the tenants verification exercise," she wondered.
Margao Police Inspector C L Patil and other police officials visited the spot as part of the investigations.
